Our Level 3 Award in the Safe Administration of Lifesaving Medication (RQF) is a regulated and nationally recognised qualification designed for emergency care providers employed by a CQC registered organisation. Delivered in Kent, this specialist prehospital course develops the knowledge, clinical understanding and practical skills required to safely administer and monitor lifesaving medication within an approved scope of practice.
Aligned with national guidance this qualification enables learners to assess patients, determine appropriate medication interventions and deliver safe, prompt and effective medication during life-threatening emergencies. Learners develop competence in understanding common lifesaving medications, clinical indications, contraindications and post-administration monitoring.
Training is delivered through practical, scenario-based learning and structured assessment. As a result, participants gain the confidence to administer medication safely while working under organisational clinical governance arrangements.

What You Will Learn

Course Structure
- Classroom training delivered in Kent through focused, practical instruction in the safe administration of lifesaving medication within a prehospital care environment
- Scenario-based learning designed to reflect real emergency and life-threatening clinical situations
- 1 mandatory unit
- Total Qualification Time (TQT): 30 hours
- Guided Learning Hours (GLH): 14 hours
- Independent study and directed learning: 16 hours
- Practical skills assessments and structured evaluation within the registration period (maximum 6 weeks)
- Level 3 Award in the Safe Administration of Lifesaving Medication (RQF), awarded upon successful completion

This nationally recognised Qualsafe Level 3 Award in the Safe Administration of Lifesaving Medication (RQF) is designed for individuals employed by a CQC registered organisation who have responsibility for assessing patients, administering lifesaving medication and monitoring its effects within a prehospital care environment.

After completing the Qualsafe Level 3 Award in the Safe Administration of Lifesaving Medication (RQF), learners can progress to further regulated prehospital care and emergency response qualifications to expand clinical competence and professional scope of practice.

What qualification do I need before SALM?
The Level 3 Award in the Safe Administration of Lifesaving Medication (RQF) requires learners to hold the Level 4 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care (FREC 4).
Learners must also be employed by a CQC registered organisation and operate under appropriate clinical governance arrangements.
If you do not yet hold FREC 4 or an equivalent qualification, you must complete this before enrolling on SALM.
